Roman republic history: legendary foundation of rome: 753 bc, foundation of republic: 509 bc, 2nd punic war: 218-201 bc. Bernard de montfaucon (1655-1741: a benedictine monk and prolific scholar of antiquity, produced a series of printed books in which over 40,000 artifacts were classified into different groups thematically. Iconographic analysis: the study of subject matter and content of a work of art, requires previous knowledge of the culture. Stylistic analysis: analysis of the form of art- details of the body and clothing, pose etc. Etruscans: culture and lifestyle was very different from the romans, left a large and impressive archaeological record, ex. Tomb of the leopards (cid:498) etruscan women take particular care of their bodies and exercise often. It is not a disgrace for them to be seen naked. Further, they dine not with their own husbands, but with any men who happen to be present. (cid:499) theopompos of chios: depictions of dining couples as attested to in theopompos.
