Ouranos hated the hekatonchires and hid them away in the middle of the earth, which was very physically painful for gaia. This pain fueled her anger, and she told her other children that ouranos must be punished. Cronos took the courage to perform the deed, as he too had great hate for his father. When ouranos was sleeping, cronos castrated him with a sickle his mother gave him. Aphrodite was born out of the foam created from his castration generation by the younger generation, as it starts a re-occurring pattern between the generations of the gods in greek myth. This correlates to the ages of man, through which the iron age, children disrespected their parents: significance: this marks the very first overturning of the older. Jupiter/jove/zeus converses with a council of gods determined to wipe away the human race. At this point, zeus is filled with anger, calling humans unworthy of the gods.
