Document Summary

90% of things we communicate to people are nonverbal. Non-verbal has no discrete units, and is not interpreted by mind as sequence of discrete, distinct units; its interpreted as a continuous flow of information. Much harder for mind to decipher non-verbal; it comes as a sort of background that leads you to have an impression of feeling. Communication is something you can always get better that, if you become more and more aware of how it works. Nonverbal behavior has communicative value: eg. proximity. Less impact with verbal and nonverbal cues are contradictory because verbal requires cognition, must depend on people"s variable iqs, attention, fatigue; must ask evaluative questions at the start to adapt. Usually deliberate requires a little logical reasoning to output language; have to think through and reason through arguments to construct sentences with proper syntax etc. Has stronger impact when verbal and non- verbal cues are contradictory.
