Social information processing theory: information from others is used to interpret events and create expectations about appropriate and acceptable attitudes and behaviours. Effect dependence: reliance on others due to the rewards and punishments they provide in accordance to their behaviour. A problem with information and effect dependence is the tendency for group members to conform to social norms established in the group. 3 types of social conformity: compliance: complies with the norms and acts/behaves in accordance so you can be accepted and acquire rewards and avoid punishment.
