During the 1980s, dissatisfaction with the process, method, and products associated with many resource and many environmental decisions began to rise. Stakeholders had a right to take part in decisions. Tokenism: policy or practice of limited inclusion; stakeholders are those who should be included b/c of direct interest. Any public agency with management responsibilities, all parties who might intervene in the decision process. Redistribution of power allows for having power of environment. Collaboration involves exchanging information and sharing resources. Coordination is harmonious working together of groups and individuals. Once collaboration is done, coordination takes place. Public agencies focus on a subset of resources. Scientific communication has 3 purposes: raise awareness, come for understanding, motivate action. We must recognize that a range of target audiences exist (scientists, general public, etc. ) Much of the general public don"t understand science or how it"s conducted. The general public doesn"t understand the risk of probability. Important to know how knowledge can be shared with others.
