Space- areal extent, an amount of area on the earths surface: absolute space: Objective, physically real, with measurable extent and de nable boundaries. Key for map-making, description and analysis(explanation) of spatial distribution. Eg. mcmaster can be measured through dimensions and boundaries: relative space: Eg. mcmaster would be spacious, large, crowded (perspective may change over time) Mathematical projections to transform the earth into a 2d map. E. g sketch maps": scale, distance, and positioning are guestimates. Location- refers to a particular position in space. Latitude and longitude co-ordinates using an arbitrary mathematical grid: 80w, 43n. A short drive from downtown, or adjacent to coyotes paradise, etc. A location of signi cance is given a name. Place: a location with a particular identity or meaning or signi cance (individual or collective) eg= childhood home. We go to these places to see their local characteristics, or to experience what makes them unique.
