Components of skills: perception of relevant environmental features, decision on what to do, when and where to achieve goal, muscle activity organized to achieve goal. Open vs. closed skills: open: environment is variable and unpredictable during action, predicting other cars in traffic, tennis, closed: environment is stable and predictable during action, drilling hole in wood, laps in empty pool. Serial: discrete: beginning and end, usually brief movement time, firing rifle, throwing ball, writing your signature, continuous: no beginning or end, behaviour flowing on for a while, swimming, knitting, require tracking: limb controls lever/wheel/etc. to follow a track.
