Layers of scalp: outer layer = skin, next layer = connective tissue with fat, next layer = heavy vasculature (leads to perfuse bleeding, next layer = occipital frontalis (muscle, innermost layer = periosteum. Skull is series of plates (bones) that joint together. Pterion: meeting place/joint for four bones of the skull. It is a weak spot because it is a four bone joint and this makes it more susceptible to fractures (compared to occipital region/occiput which is thick) 3 layers wrap around brain: dura mater superficial and toughest (can be double layered, arachnoid mater middle and spongy, pia mater wraps around crevasses of brain and is delicate. Grey matter = outer layer, tougher and more dense: is a collection of neuronal proteins. White matter = inner layer made up of axons from neurons in grey matter. *grey and white matters can shear/come apart in a sliding motion (think whipping gelatin off a watermelon)
