Muscles and nerves have a resting membrane potential (a difference of charge): can introduce a current to trigger an action potential (ap) through an electrical modality. Can be performed with resistance exercise: re-education the muscle and strengthen the muscle (work against something to cause hypertrophy, normal contractions will alternate muscles that are contracted to avoid fatigue, should have longer rest periods between stimulations)
