In extension, gel will move anteriorly: the movement of the gel is only about a mm to cm long. Ligaments on the vertebral bodies: anterior longitudinal ligament, runs along the anterior aspect of the vertebral bodies + intervertebral discs. It is a thinner strip less developed: limits flexion of spine. Ligaments on the vertebral arch: ligamentum flavum, connects the lamina of adjacent vertebrae, runs through the posterior aspect of vertebral canal, limits flexion of spine.
