Pseudostratified: appears to have multiple layers but actually doesn"t all cells attach to basement membrane. Cuboidal: equal height and width (cube ish shape) Because the simplicity allows for gas to pass through easily. Simple cuboidal: = lining of the kidney collecting ducts. So it can secrete and absorb substances easily. A gland is a single cell or mass of epithelial cells adapted for secretion. Endocrine glands have no open cell surface and no ducts. Exocrine glands have open cell surface and have ducts that lead to the outside of the body. Multicellular glands: composed of many cells that form a distinctive microscoptic structure or macroscopic organ. Merocrine: in merocrine glands, secretions pass through the cell membranes of the secretory cells (exocytosis). For example, goblet cells of the trachea release mucus via exocytosis.
