Women tend to be in this line of work because people tend to see themselves as individuals who cannot partake in long term roles due to family needs, cultural needs, and other factors like being a constant caretaker. Many scholars point to the reason to this low wage/ poverty as part of historical process and patriarchy. Patriarchy is a system where social, economic, and political privilege upon men over women & children.
