In canada some sectors have been completely eliminated such as the textile manufactures. Hamilton used to be central for textile manufacturing and now, only very few of those shops remain. Industrial jobs tended to be unionized and secure, permanent, full year, full time, bene ts and good pay - a standard employment relationship. Private services - retail and food services and accommodation and accounting - only 7% have a union and private sector jobs make up 73% of workers. Service sector is very polarized - some jobs good and some bad ex. Being a lawyer is still a service and is secure but others ex. Declining access to unions, over the last 60 years, for usa. For canada, the number of unions has stayed pretty stable, not declining. A huge decline from great depression (declined from 1930s-40s).
