Melody - tend to focus on, listen and hear a line. A musical phrase - this melody is the "first phrase" of the song. Question and answer (leaves with an open ended statement need a conclusion to it) ends of phrases = cadences (aka. Punctuation mark) melody has a beginning, middle and end. If we say the entire melody is a phrase (aka . melodic fragment), then within it is sub-phrases that progress the song. Melodic climax - the pinnacle of the song. When linked all together they make a bigger musical statement. Words and melody play integral role with each other. Music collage - whole bunch of different melodies and fragments . Big connection between music and art throughout the centuries. Don"t have to have a melody to carry out of a rhythm. (clapping music video, or drums, or gamelan gong) They accompany the melody like a background guide.
