There will be an overview of the normal changes associated with pregnancy and please note that this is a huge topic area and we will try to identify the key changes. After reviewing normal expectations for pregnancy as background information, the focus will shift to discuss two areas of alteration of reproductive function. First we will look at infertility including reasons for anovulation, the impact of a woman"s age and some of the potential structural defects. The second alteration of reproduction will examine some of the complications of pregnancy including hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, hellp syndrome, postpartum hemorrhage and elude to gdm. This is a review of the terminology that will be discussed in this module. Hpo axis: hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis, the main hormonal feedback pathway responsible for the reproductive system. Os: the opening from the uterus through the cervix into the vagina, can measure the dilatation of the os to monitor the progress of labour.
