Criteria for systemic inflammatory response syndrome (sirs) is no longer part of the definition of sepsis. This criteria indicated an inflammatory response that is systemic rather than localized. Criteria for sirs higher or lower than normal body temperature, increased heart and respiratory rate and a high or low white blood cell count.
