Document Summary

In the absence of external forces, the momentum of the system is conserved. Inelastic collision- if the kinetic energy is converted into other forms of energy in which the total momentum of the system stays constant during the collision. If the net force is constant (force times delta t) Impulse doesn"t always have to be a rectangle it can be any weird shape. Impulse is always the area under the curve. If it was perfectly inelastic both the objects would have the same final velocities- if they don"t then they are not perfectly inelastic: to end up with 0 momentum the triangle pieces have to be equal to 0. Mathematical description of a wave pulse: phase of the wave. Periodic waves: periodic wave- if the end of a rope is disturbed repeatedly, harmonic waves can be represented by a sine or cosine function, wave number (k)- encodes the wavelength information into the wave function.
