State: state is the form of human community, an organization that manages to convince everyone that their decisions are final when it comes to violence, somebody has central authority. Nation: basis of common language, territory, economic life and common culture (stalin) Nation state: full control, emphasizes on people having connections, an idea of home land and common, we have a world of nation states as this has been imposed by europeans and passed down. Patriotism: strong feelings of support/pride for state. Nationalism: the state should belong to a nation, nation should align with a stable set of borders. Ethnic nationalism: self v others (stresses elements like common language, race etc) Civic nationalism: stresses common ideas, preferences, values and priorities. Idea that differences should be seen as a strength rather than a weakness. Conceptualizing globalization: stretching of social political and economic activities across political frontiers, interconnectedness, accelerating pace of global interactions.
