Politics: the study of who gets what, when, and how; the struggle to control the state and the institutions that comprise it. Power: the capacity to overcome resistance and make decisions in the face of opposition. Political science: the study of the unforeseen, unexpected results of human and social actions. Development: the enrichment of the political and cultural life of the population as a whole. Continuing theory: the belief that we are constantly evolving and that progress is happening whether people like it or not; nobody can stop progress. Trickle down effect/theory: a belief that additional wealth gained by the richest people in society will have a good economic effect on the lives of everyone because the rich people can put extra money into businesses, make investments, etc. Oil spot theory/strategy: a tactic in which a political or military organization secures an area to be used as a launch site for campaigns to other areas.
