The scientific study of how people"s affect, behaviours, and cognitions are influenced by the presence of at least one person: abc"s of psychology. Very broad range of topics: conformity, persuasion, group behaviour, prejudice, sexuality. Observation+theory hypothesis+predictions test if confirms, adds to theory and observations/if fails to confirm, modify hypothesis. Done in a lab under controlled conditions: cover stories, research confederates (actors) They were trained to play the same role in each experiments so each participant has the same experience. Independent variable is manipulate by the experimenter in order to answer your question. Dependent variable is measured by the experimenter, does it change when the independent variable changes. Iv and dc are carefully defined: operationalization. Ss are randomly assigned to conditions if between ss. Random assignment is key to getting a perfect assignment. If you don"t use random assignment you can find weird equalities among groups.
