Centered on a limited number of key ideas: Science of psychology cannot study the mental world directly. Must study the mental world if we are going to study/understand behaviours. Wundt & titchener launched a new research enterprise and their work lead to modern understandings of psychology. In their beliefs, psychology needed to focus largely on the study of conscious mental process/events feelings, thoughts, perceptions and recollections. It is these beliefs that lead to the birth of introspection. Problems with this: some thoughts might be unconscious, therefore the very nature of introspection cannot give us glimpses into this. Another problem science must be testable, introspection isnt. There is no way to know whether or not someone is describe something factual vs fictional so problem there. How behaviour changes in response to various stimuli. The reasons people feel the way they do, is because of their understanding of the world around them.
