It is about understanding how we select information to attend to, we are bias towards information that is important to us: perceptual illusions are examples of how what we perceive is not what is real. Our perceptional systems have developed sensitivity to different stimuli in the environment: a lot of information is ambiguous, we must decide how to perceive it. History: cognition has a long history, there are many different perspectives. Today we know we cannot investigate contents of the mind. Introspection feel out of favor and was considered to be nonscientific.
