Plato: the classic nativist, children did not need to learn; only recollect, would recognize a new animal. Nativist - one who views development as being driven primarily or exclusively by internal forces. The information needed for development is assumed to exist within the developing child. Often this information is thought to be preserved in the genes. Aristotle: the classic empiricist, everything that is known is from experience, a newborn"s mind is a blank slate.
