Transitions for adults have been transformed by a number of things including: The growing diversity in types of intimate relationships and families. And ideological change in how people think about their personal lives, speci cally how they think about issues such as: *prevalence of breakups = children going through many transitions. *re ected in the media (ex. modern family referenced in textbook) Shows different families (nuclear, blended, same sex) Huge change from earlier generations in short time (used to only see nuclear/ heterosexual) Media re ects what is happening in society and affects how we de ne our lives. People are questioning how they might be de ned by their intimate relationships and family ties and what these relationships will look like. Challenges faced by many canadian families, particularly lone parent, transnational, immigrant, aboriginal families, and families experiencing the disability of a family member or ill, injured, aging or dying family members.
