Using deduction, one begins with a theory/explanation for something, then goes out into the world and tests it. Takes out what if"s: inductive approach. One begins by gathering or examining data and then tries to derive a theory or explanation from the data. Can be iterative (going back and forth between theory and data), leading to generalizations (may not be applicable to everyone)
