What is colonialism: a form of domination in which a group (often bounded under nation ) controls over the territory and/or economy, and/or culture, and/or religion, and/or language and/or social behavior of another group. It serves the interests of the colonizer: the dominating group/nation"s subjugation of the other is justified through a set of beliefs often based upon notions of racial, cultural, religious superiority. In other words, it assumes the inferiority of the colonized. The western and the indian: the western became the setting of a fictional history that celebrates conquest under the ideologies freedom, pragmatism, equality. The onslaught of ignorant and vicious pictures about indians became so alarming that, in 1911, tribal leaders held a protest against them in washington and demanded action from president taft. Arrival of a train: audience thought the train was actually coming at them, focus on actuality in early film, not necessarily telling a story.
