A workflow management system (wfms) is a software system that manages the flow of work. A workflow management system performs resource allocation for work items using organizational roles. The system creates work items for tasks in a process. Offers or allocates work items to human resources based on the roles people are performing. Each human resource has queues for work items that are offered or allocated to it. A business process is a set of activities that deliver an outcome with some value to a customer (external or internal) Business processes are built based on business rules. Unwritten assumptions and set ways of working that become apparent when business processes are analyzed and documented. Business rules result from the way a firm perceives and uses information. These rules in turn determine how the firm functions and conducts its business. Use of it (to enable new processes, not to automate old ones) External partners need to adapt (vendors, customers)
