Anthropocene so far: birth rate dropping: women empowerment, death rate drastically dropping: modern medicine. Where are we headed: eventually we will get to a point where births balance deaths, or death rate will spike up and stay there if we don"t do anything about it. Rising but falling: annual world population change: more and more larger additions, until the turn of the century where it started to plateau. Rate of increase is slowing down: doubled in the last 40 years, but the trend is slowing down, even a pandemic wouldn"t create a "sustainable" population - too much momentum and youth. If we want to avoid the misery of too many people/overcrowding, we have to get aggressive with controlling birth rate. If there are whispering genes that inform this, population growth might be a problem: birth rate will go up, along with massive mortality - to deal with misery.
