A mental representation of a class of objects or events. Learned through previous experiences and from other concepts. Concepts are multimodal: more than just one kind of representation, includes other kinds of representations of the concept, such as auditory, visual, etc. Lock and hume believed that concepts were learned through sensory experiences. Divided into three types: schema, frame, script. Rumelhart & others: structure of the related object/idea that shows the constituent typical properties or features. A structured system capable of organizing and perceiving new information. Puts things into different categories, parts, and associations. Represents stereotyped situations: i. e. halloween = costumes, trick or treating. Minsky believed that thinking should be done by frames instead of structure or parts. Schank and abelson believe that scripts are concepts that show psychological computational collaboration. Scripts: an array or list of a structure with each defining a step of the process in the sequence.
