It was postulated and disproven over time by the following scientists: Proposed that frogs were spontaneously generated from pond water. Helmont: (1600) proposed a recipe for making mice using inorganic compounds. Redi: (1600) dismissed the idea of spontaneous generation. Spallanzani: (1700) took meat and placed it on one of two vessels. One was covered and the other was not. Flies came to the uncovered meat and laid eggs giving rise to maggots. The covered meat had no maggots thus disproving spontaneous generation. Pouchet: took beef broth sealed in a flask. Boiled it to kill the bacteria and sealed it so it remained sterile.
