- Scientific methodology, generalization and abstraction, opposed to any emotional
or intuitive knowledge. Plato’s senses could be deceived and generalized. Value
of emotional responses which is very contrary to a scientific method.

industries are the focus of global economy, national economies are interested in television,
market, art, public relations, architecture
Material Products
- Means of social life (the stuff of life)
- cars, tbs, clothes, food
- the natural, technical and organizational resources available or potentially available
- Era of Fordism
Immaterial Products
- social life itself
- ideas, images, knowledge, communication, cooperation and affective relations
- Communication and social life as source of primary value
- Era of Post-Fordism
- We would now describe ourselves as living within a post-Fordist creative economy
(Focus of wealth at that time) Economy base of society = superstructure (culture, religion, law,
kinship, language, relationship with our own bodies) Impact of Industrialization 1740-1880
- The kind of labour society at that time went from agrarian (farming and craft) society to
an industrial society (factory system) to the cities, massive urbanization, this
industrialization makes a modern mind, but an alienated man.
- Alienated by: assembly line work, contrary to holistic work (contrary to someone who
would get wood, make would, sell wood, to benefit family and community) MARX
THEORY:
1) Agrarian (farming and craft) society to an industrial society (factory system) to the cities,
massive urbanization, this industrialization makes a modern mind, but an alienated man.
Alienated by: assembly line work, contrary to holistic work (contrary to someone who
