Document Summary

The difference between solids, liquids, and gases at a molecular level is how much room the atoms have to move around. In solids, the atoms are packed closely together not leaving much room to move around, thus giving it a de nite shape and volume. The atoms in liquids have a little more room to move around and can take the shape of its container but still have a de nite volume. A physical property is a property is one that a substance displays without changing its composition. The difference between a chemical and physical change is that during a physical change the chemical composition is not changed where as in a chemical change the chemical composition is changed. Example: when boiling water, the water is transformed into water vapor but is still water and the chemical composition hasn"t changed. The law of conservation of energy states that energy is neither created nor destroyed.
