Document Summary

If the prioriies are going clockwise, label it (r) If the prioriies are going counter clockwise, label it a (s) In order to determine if it is cis or trans, determine the high and low priority groups stand. If two high priority groups are on the same side then it is cis, if two high priority groups are opposite from each other then it is trans. No rotaion around double bonds, only single bonds. Hayworth projecions reveal the cis and trans coniguraions. Cahn ingold prelog priority rules: determine whether cis or trans. If all the subsituents are diferent, then it can not be cis or trans. When assigning prioriies, the higher priority group gets the lower number. To assign prioriies, the highest atomic number resembles the highest priority group, therefore, the lowest number. If subsituents are the same, look down the chain for diferences. Compare where the atoms are not the same, and base the priority on this diference.
