Time in chapters one and two (intro to play and play environments) Play can be for fun (physical skill games for gross motor, strategy games for cognitive and chance games), to learn and develop (social, physical, mental), to heal (express grief/make sense of trauma) Self directed play is when children have free choice, play is enjoyable and focused on a process. Maintaining physical and psychological safety is the main goal in group activities. Role of facilitator is 2 way communication; child is interested, facilitator provides resources. Neuroception: child"s sensory ability to distinguish whether or not a situation is safe, safe > healing. Nature returns children to homeostasis, prefer outdoor activities due to increased mobility and independence, creating/destroying, plants and animals, nature walks, etc. Indoor play provides predictability, easier to control, easily modi ed.
