Document Summary

3 requirements to see color:an object, a light source, an observer. Spectrometer- device that measures reflected or transmitted light. Colorimeter- instrument or device that measures shade, tint, value, brightness and purity. Colorimetry- measurement or analysis by means of a colorimeter. The colour you see depends on the intensity and wave lengths of light that illuminate the object, reflect or are transmitted by the object. Democritus- believed perceived world was just illusory experience behind which existed another immense, inconceivably deep atomic world. Plato- emphasized the observer, described color as a sensation perceived by an observer. Albert munsell- munsell system of color notation 1915- identified color in terms of hue, value and chroma. 5r 4/12 = hue is 5r-red, value is 4, chroma is 12. Additive color mixtures- derived from beams of colored light. Substractive color mixtures- when pigments, paints and dyes are layered or mixed. The colours that are not absorber by an object are reflected from the surface.
