Document Summary

Landscape epidemiology: looking at the landscape of the environment, and how it affects epidemiology. Malaria is the leading public health problem in sub-saharan africa, in ethiopia more than 2/3 of the population is at risk. Illustrations make an impact on how you understand a location, and there is an importance of accurately forecasting future disease outbreak. In the case of malaria: the warmer/moister it is, the higher risk of mosquitos (larva still survive in the water), it"s seasonal, and influenced by lack of sewers, no windows/doors, and unfinished floors. Children under 5 and pregnant women are very susceptible to it. Like tb, it has a latent period, and its difficult for the poor to afford medication for long periods (and can lead to antibiotic resistance). Using this information, you can develop maps to show how environmental factors have contributed to malaria. Therefore, landscape epidemiology allows to predict future outbreaks/problems.
