Document Summary

An economic revolution, but also has huge social and political consequences. Origins: rooted in western europe, mostly in britain, but also france and holland. Can"t pin a date on it however, we see it being more prominent in 1760-70s. Industrial revolution: change in the production of goods, from hand production, to machine. Factors that play a role in development; 4 preconditions. Europe was busy with napoleon and his shit, london was the financial capital, had best banking: another economic revolution that must happen first; an agricultural revolution. Had problem with population growth, food supply, problems with land (too much held by landlords and not enough by peasants) We need change in order to feed these people. First thing to do; go against what peasants want; they consolidate land amongst large scale owners. From perspective of landowners: food shortages occurred, so wanted to grow more, not for feeding people, but for money.
