Week 9, Class 1 tuesday, March 21, 2017 Continuation on Karl Marx - he was born in Germany - he went to Berlin to study philosophy and was influenced by one of his professors on how history is viewed in a certain way - Marx's changes Hegel's philosophy - The material world/ the economic world changes and the people must change with it - this is known as Marx’s __________ - Once he got out of school in 1845 he goes to Paris - in Paris he gets involved with radical - he starts to write radical newspapers - French socialist influence him - he reject their view on socialism - he wants to study history, “ key moment” - like the French Revolution, bounce using this to gain background - in 1847 the government kicks Marx out because of his involvement with radicals - Trade unions activity in Berlin which is where he goes next - he joined the German working Union - With this he gets involved with the meeting in London in 1847 - “ The inter communists league” The point of the meeting was to create a new Union - Frederick Angels joins Marx to meeting - he become Secretary of this new union - Angels needs to make Manifesto known as the “ Communist Manifesto” which shows what the organization wants and represents - she gets Marx’s help to create this - in 1848 revolution takes place all over Europe and 1 occurs in Paris therefore Marx goes back ( he goes believing it is the start of Industrial Revolution but it is not) - the government still does not want him there - and therefore goes to London England and stays there for the rest of his life - during that time he create “ critique of political economy” ( 1859), and “ capital” ( 1867 to 1894) - Wendy's books for first published he didn't really make money even though today it is famous - Marx believed understand the past present and future you need to know history - history can be treated as a science as it has patterns and laws He created the 5 Epochs (E-pox) of History - These are areas of human development 1. primitive communism (“asiatic”) 2. Slavery ( Greece and Rome) 3. feudalism (medieval Europe) 4. Capitalism ( Europe in Industrial Revolution) 5.
