Htr 741: basics of social research; qualitative and quantitative approaches. Intro: social research affects many aspects of our everyday loved experiences. To guide their policies and practices, to reduce crime, improve public health, sell products, or just understand their aspect of their lives. Social research: is a process in which people combine a set of principles, outlooks, and ideas (ie methodology) with a collection of specific practices, techniques, and strategies (i. e, method of inquiry) to produce knowledge. Six source of knowledge: authority: when you rely on authority which you accept as true basic on the knowledge from books, media, teachers. It is easy to overestimate, all authorities may not be equally dependable, and authorities may speak on fields they know little about, or they may be plain wrong: tradition: authority from the past. You accept something as being true because it"s the way things have always been. ex.
