Head tax was imposed, to discourage new immigrants from coming. An exclusion act was created which did not allow chinese to enter canada. Over 600 chinese canadian soldiers served to prove loyalty. Chinese immigrants were allowed back into canada based on their education, occupation and other criteria, which meant chinese people were better educated. They were from hong kong and some from taiwan. They lived primarily in chinatowns in ontario, bc, and alberta.
