Chapter 1 notes- introduction to the field of organizational behaviour. Organizational behaviour: the study of what people thing, feel, and do in and around organizations: employee behaviours, decisions, perceptions, and emotional responses, how individuals and teams relate to one another and to their counterparts in other organizations. The members in an organization have a collective sense of purpose: not always well defined and agreed upon. Organizational behaviour makes a difference to their career success: helps people to get things done in organizations. Goal attainment is a poor way of viewing organizational effectiveness because any leadership team could set corporate goals that are easy to achieve but might still put the organization out of business. Corporate leaders are the keepers of an organizational memory. Retain intellectual capital: keeping knowledgeable employees, systematically transfer knowledge to other employees, transfer knowledge into structural capital.
