PCS 211 Final: Lab #4-statici equillibrium forces and torque

277 views18 pages

Document Summary

The objective of this experiment was to study and understand the role of forces of a moment in equilibrium. The moment of a force is also known as torque. This was done using a system consisting of a pivot, a meter stick and measuring the centre of gravity of the meter stick. This means that the system is not moving or accelerating, making the net force equal to zero (collin). Vanier sensors measured the force acting on the meter stick and the distance of the meter stick to the pivot was measured (deca, 2013). We will confirm that when the torques at any given points on the meter stick are summed, it will equal zero. In doing this, calculations were performed to examine the relationship between the forces and center of gravity. Static equilibrium is defined as an object with no acceleration or velocity.
