Kohlberg challenge: most data was collected from males, females were found not to progress into the final autonomous stage, stuck in conventional level based on pleasing others rather than being true to their own moral compass. The child seeks to conform to the expected. Children have no real understanding of values. They assume that powerful individuals in their lives have the right to hand down a fixed set of rules which they must obey. Issues of good/bad depend on the physical consequences.
