Document Summary

The purpose of this lab was to investigate the relationship between force and acceleration in a friction free environment. Additionally the concept of mass was investigated and how it affects force and acceleration. This was done using a frictionless track, which consists of metal with air pumped into it to allow the slider to glide along the track with no friction. Various weights were placed on a hangar to determine the relationships between increasing mass and the increase in force. As the mass was increased the acceleration should increase as well. These relationships were displayed and documented using logger pro software, which also calculated the acceleration for each mass. Two photo gates measured the times and speed of the glider as it passed over the frictionless track. This is what allowed the acceleration to be calculated. This lab essentially investigated newton"s second law and proved its theory. The theory explored throughout this laboratory was newton"s second law of motion.
