Sustainability becomes a prominent figure in understanding what makes a creative city. After all, a city cannot flourish if it is not sustainable. All things in a city are essential components in keeping a city healthy; environmental integrity, quality of life, economic security, and democratic participation. By far, sustainability is what allows a city to continue to progress, and landry seems to agree as throughout his seven elements, the implication about sustainability are clearly noted in each element. Namely, a successful creative ecology can simply be comprised of landry"s seven elements for a creative city; place, connection, design, experience, inspiration, and learning. Landry"s seven key elements illustrate how creative cities are able to flourish in sustainability due to the continuous adaptations of it"s creative ecology. For example, a city is often the physical manifestation of the forces around it. Hence, it"s clear to see that a sustainable city is often a city that is able to fulfill landry"s list.
