Research methods of psychological: safeguards against error. For person with infantile autism trained facilitator and child. Controlled studies that this is not the truth. Not functional- the facilitator is communicating, the autistic child is not. Heuristic errors and biases: representative heuristic. Matching something new with something we already know and then making assumptions about the new thing: availability heuristic. What is most available to our minds is what we draw on when considering a topic. Cognitive biases: hindsight bias after the fact thinking, overconfidence- over estimate our ability to make correct predictions. Our methods in psychology: naturalistic observation- observe and describe behaviour of interest without manipulating the situation. Direct observation as participant: indirect observation- the effects ( when people are not there, you observe their effects) E. g jane goodall provine- studied laughing in public. Women were more likely to laugh in a setting than men. Most laughter in public has nothing to do with humour.
