Harmful dysfunction: harmful failure of internal mechanisms to perform their naturally selected function. 3 types of theories: biological theories, supernatural theories, and psychological theories. Biological theories: abnormal behaviour is similar to physical diseases, caused by breakdown of systems in the body. Treatment is to restore the body to good health. Hippocrates: all diseases of the body were linked to imbalance in the bodily humours: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black b ile.
