SOC 103 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: New Born, Cultural Relativism, Hyperreality
Document Summary
Sociology: the systematic study of human society and social interaction, sociologists apply both theoretical perspectives and research methods to examinations of social behaviour. Human societies and their social interactions are studied to develop theories of how human behaviour is shaped by group life, and in turn how group life is affected by individuals. It enables us to see how behaviour is largely shaped by groups to which we belong and by the society in which we live. A society: is a large grouping that shares the same geographical territory and is subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations (canada/us/mexico) Global interdependence: a relationship in which the lives of all people are closely intertwined and any ones nations problems are part of a larger global problem. Many of us rely on intuition or commons sense gained from personal experience to help us understand our daily lives and other peoples behaviour.
