Research in the sociology of sports creates controversies. Changes would jeopardize their position and the benefits that comes with it. These people see sociology of sport as too critical and idealistic and often claim that these changes would upset the natural order of things. Ideologies = are webs of ideas and beliefs that people use to give meaning to the world and make sense of their experiences: they embody the principles, perspectives, and viewpoints that underlie our feelings, thoughts, and actions. Gender ideology = consists of a web of ideas and beliefs about masculinity, femininity, and male-female relationship. People use gender ideology to define what it means to be a man or woman; evaluate and judge people and relationships, and determine what they consider natural and moral when it comes to gender. Dominant gender ideologies = men are naturally superior in activities that involve strength, physical skills, and emotional control.
