POSTERIOR LOWER LEG:
Achilles Tendon Rupture:
Ssx:
-lump curled up at back of heel
-unable to PF
-Excessive passive DF
-cannot single leg raise
-swelling around maleolus
Functional Tests:
-Thompson test
-AROM/PROM
-Strenghth test (Weak PF)
-Palpation (watch for the lump)

Tx:
-Surgergical Repair
-Walking boot
-AROM/PROM
-Gradual loading, progress to running
-Balance exercise
-DTFM
-Theraband, towel crunches strengthening
Achilles Tendinopathy:
SSx:
-Pain with activity, and after sleeping
-Spongy, boggy feeling
Fxnal Tests:
-AROM/PROM (slight pain in DF)
-Muscle strength tests
-Palpation (boggy)
Tx:
-Rest, ice
-Eccentric loading
-Heel lifts (may make calves tight)
-balance exercises

Calf Strain:
SSx:
-Pain, tenderness
-Scar tissue
-Limping, muscle weakness
Fxnal Tests:
-AROM/PROM WB and NWB (bent and straight. Bent for soleus, straight for gastrocs)
-Strength test (pain, weakness in PF)
-Palpation (scar tissue)
Tx:
-AROM exercises
-RICE
-Tape job
-Contraction exercises
-Eccentric loading exercises
-Balance exercises
-Micro stretch
-possible heel lifts
-Plyometrics training after healed some
